Peaks and Valleys; Day 4

It’s 4 :15 on Monday afternoon, Hawaii time. The first moment I have had since yesterday morning to take a breath.  Not too many though, because the Spicy Strawn 6 will pick us up in 25 minutes to take us to our big Luau in Big Lou.  But first, I must get down some thoughts about yesterday.  It was unreal.  I saw the southeast side of the island from the air and the northwest side of the island on the ground.  Having thought about it the last day or so, I have decided Continue reading

Guest Blogger!

I thought it would be nice to get in writing a different perspective other than my own about this once-in-a-lifetime-trip and I have been bugging asking the boys if either of them would like to contribute.  Dan has been pretty busy catching up on Netflix and You Tube videos but Mike finally took the bait and decided he had something to say. I am so glad he did.  And I am grateful that all of his hard work the past however-many-years has allowed us to do something this amazing.

So, here you go…

Day 25 – Hilo and Uncle Robert’s

Day 24 Family Photo – witnessing creation!

We had such a fun day today!! And we didn’t have to get into a dangerous situation either! Win, win!

I was up super early and went out for a walk to see the sunrise. I ended up meeting a nice woman named Pam from Cali who owns a house here and just arrived for the next two months with her Great Dane service dog and her veterinarian husband. We chatted Continue reading

Day 22 – Heading East to Kapoho

Day 21 Family Photo – On our way to Merriman’s

It was our last morning on the Kohala Coast in our gorgeous, decadent home by the beach.  Of course, there was lots to do to get ready for our one last move before we head home next weekend.  We have only one more week which I am finding hard to believe. But, before we left our favorite little spot of paradise, Mike and I trekked down Continue reading

Day 20 – Kealakakua Bay and the Mantas!

I couldn’t not choose both of these pictures that Mike took last night of a family with a goofy girl all showered, ready to watch Despicable Me 1 and then enjoy an early bedtime.

That early bedtime was for all of us, actually. Mike rose at 5 and then slowly started to stir his dead tired family.  He was ready to get on the road this morning.  We drove about Continue reading

Day 19 – Paniolo Adventure

img_0923

Yes I realize this is a screen shot, but James posted this photo on Instagram and it was the only way to capture it (damn, Instagram, can you be more difficult!) It will now serve as our Day 18 ‘Family’ Photo

Waking up this morning felt a bit like a dream.  We have been talking about doing a vow renewal for YEARS, so it was crazy to think that it was over. Continue reading

Day 18 – Vow Renewal

Day 17 Family Photo did not happen!  Argh!  But we did catch this photo of us after a short hike.  This was the same hammock that we sat in 6 years ago, when we first started talking about taking a trip like the one we are on right now.

The day started out a little overcast which was actually nice because it cooled our part of the island down a few degrees. (While we enjoy very little rain on this dry, westward facing coast, our small, beautiful, palm tree-lined resort is also surrounded by lots of dark, heat absorbing, vegetation-free lava. I’m not complaining – I mean, I live in Dallas, for gosh sakes where at this very moment, it is 96 degrees.)

Michael and I got up early as usual and snuck out Continue reading
